Big, but not overwhelming, Chicago is easy to get around and full of some great venues and better food.
Since I arrived in Chicago in 2001 I haven't had the need to get a car; I'm able to get everywhere using the El or buses. I'd recommend taking a look at www.transitchicago.com before going through the headache of trying to drive or paying for a cab.
